The Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development Fund (SIE Fund) Maintenance Scheme
Provision of affordable maintenance service for elders by recycling unwanted construction materials
In collaboration with District Councils of Tsuen Wan, Kwai Tsing, Eastern District and North District, Longevity Design House endeavours to promote the concept of “Ageing in Place” through utilising unwanted construction materials to provide affordable minor maintenance service for singleton elders. Elders living alone in public housings or government-subsidised housings can subscribe for a one-year maintenance plan at HK$1,200 to enjoy unlimited number of maintenance services within that year, which is at about half the price a usual maintenance company will charge.
The venture will also partner with NGOs to run training programmes for developers and construction companies to encourage donation of unwanted construction materials whereby the project’s operating cost can be reduced and environmental awareness will be enhanced.

Expected Impact/Outcomes
To improve elderlies’ living environment, enjoy ‘Ageing in Place’
- 2100 units of single elderlies’ household from four estates can be beneficial from the scheme
To provide more job opportunities for the socially disadvantaged groups
- 100 unemployed and retired people are hired as part-time technicians
Development Process
By September of 2018:
- Provided affordable home maintenance services to 2 117 (667) elderly households in seven districts, including:
-1858 (515) low-income elderly households;
– 60 (50) Longevity Design House’s existing “sandwiched” elderly who are eligible for the Building Maintenance Grant Scheme for Elderly Owners of Hong Kong Housing Society; and
– 199 (102) private elderly clients - Recruited 105(51) students from the Vocational Training Council as Young Ambassadors, of which 11 students were hired as part-time staff in construction industry
- Recruited over 900(420) young-old volunteers in collaboration with 29 (22) NGOs/ other organisations
- Provided 26(10) training workshops for the above students and young-old volunteers
- Collected unwanted construction materials from three construction companies
